The Inaugural Tunnel 2 Towers Run (T2T) London 2012 (approx 5 Km) took place on Sunday the 21st October 2012. Taking our inspiration from the FDNY Tunnel to Towers Run organised by the Stephen Siller Foundation, www.tunneltotowersrun.org. The event began at Southwark Park in Bermondsey with the run itself starting in the aptley named Brunel Road. The run then went from South to North under the River Thames through the Rotherhithe Tunnel to wapping and Finished in London's Docklands in Billingsgate Market in the shadow of Canary Wharfs Towers. Where we held a street party till late afternoon.
Every Service, Emergency and Armed was represented with a huge turn out and this took various forms, be it in uniform, protective equipment or running wear. Money was raised for hundreds of charties including the Firefighters Charity, the Blue Lamp Foundation, Katie Pipers Burns Charity, The Bomb Disposal Charity 'Felix', The London Fire Brigade Welfare Fund to name a few.
Last years T2T event, which was a huge success, was programmed as close as possible to the 9/11 disaster showing support for our American Brothers and Sisters, whilst also taking into account the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. This was also the date of the Foiled London Bomb plot and also that as a historical date this was the day that Neil Armstrong was the first man to walk on the moon, "Small Step for Man, A Giant Leap for Mankind. After much discussion and liaison with the Local Authorities we have decided to set the date for next years Tunnel 2 Towers Run on Sunday the 21st July 2013, subject to final permissions being granted. This will allow us to align our event closer to our own significant date of 7/7 and also then allow for our people to make the journey across the pond to actively take part and support the events in America, therefore with a view to supporting and complimenting each others events.
